Hello Double Peak Families,

It is our sincere pleasure to welcome you back for the 2024/2025 school year.  We hope everyone had a wonderful summer and is ready for what is ahead of us!  Our staff is excited to have our students back on campus soon.  As you begin to prepare for the upcoming year, here is a reminder of what our bell schedule is. Students in grades Kindergarten - 8th will attend school from 8:15 - 2:40, except for Wednesday when we will dismiss at 1:40 (early release).  Our TK program will have an AM and PM class.  The AM class will attend 8:00 - 11:35 and dismiss at 10:35 on Wednesdays.  The PM class will attend from 11:35 - 3:10 and on Wednesdays will attend from 10:35 - 1:10.

This year we will be focused on helping our students grow academically and behaviorally, and develop their social-emotional skills.  Using our district’s Portrait of a Graduate as our guiding vision, we are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment that creates visionary leaders.  We look forward to partnering with families to make sure each child reaches their potential this year.

One of the biggest challenges we face each year is dropping off and picking up students on campus.  Last year our school district began providing bus service to our site.  We strongly encourage families to “skip the line” and become bus riders.  You can register for transportation HERE.  The drop-off and pick-off process runs much smoother when families follow the procedures we have in place.  PLEASE read our PARKING LOT LETTER  to make sure you understand the school’s expectations.

As the year begins there are some important dates that you will want to note:

Monday, August 19th Meet and Greet events for all grade levels.  Families will receive an email from their child’s teacher that outlines expectations for the school year.  At our Meet & Greet events, families will meet with the Administration, see their student’s classrooms and have the opportunity to meet their children’s teachers.  Each event will begin in our PAC or GYM with a welcome-back presentation from the administration team.  There will be no formal presentation in the classroom.  This time is for the students and families to meet the teacher and familiarize themselves with the campus.  Classrooms will ONLY be open during designated times so our staff can prepare for a great first day!

9:00 - 10:00 1st and 2nd Grades

10:30 - 11:30 7th and 8th Grades

1:00 - 2:00 6th Grade

2:00 - 3:00  TK & Kinder

3:30 - 4:30 3rd, 4th and 5th Grades

Tuesday, August 20th FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!  Campus opens at 7:30 to students.  Breakfast is available for students every day before school at no cost, beginning at 7:30.  Parents are welcome to accompany their students to the blacktop on the first day of school ONLY.  After the first day, our campus will be closed to unregistered visitors.

Additionally, here are important announcements from San Marcos Unified:

  • We take the safety of our students and staff seriously, and a part of this is ensuring everyone who is on a school campus is cleared and approved to be present. As a result, there is a new volunteer clearance process with different requirements for different types of school or classroom volunteer commitments. We have outlined each of these volunteer levels with their requirements, please click here for more information or see the flyer here.

  • Did you know the average cost of an ambulance ride in CA is $549? This is why SMUSD has partnered with a third-party to provide optional student accident insurance, for as little as $14 for the year. Voluntary student accident insurance is highly-beneficial if an accident was to occur while attending or participating in school-sponsored activities. For details and more information, see the flyer here or visit Student Insurance USA.

  • As we eagerly prepare for the new school year, we want to share some updates about our school attire guidelines. We ask that you be mindful of these when preparing for back-to-school shopping. These guidelines are designed to create a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all our students across K-8, middle, and high schools.

  • To promote a focused and supportive atmosphere, we have updated our list of prohibited attire items. After thoughtful collaboration with the San Marcos Sheriff's Department, here are the items that will no longer be allowed for students to wear to school:

    • Professional sports teams' jerseys and logos on clothing, hats, and accessories
    • Gang-related writing, symbols, graffiti, or tagging on any property
    • Monogrammed or lettered belt buckles (e.g., S, N, M, R, B, X, 13, 14)
    • Bandanas
    • Hair nets

These changes reflect our commitment to ensuring that every student feels safe and supported at school.

If a student is found wearing a prohibited item, they will be asked to change into appropriate clothing, and the item will be held securely at the front office. Parents/guardians are welcome to pick it up after school

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Together, we can make this school year our best one yet!

    WELCOME BACK SUNS -
